Salt and brackish marshes

A marsh if a type of landscpe with a limited relief, where the soil is permanently or temporarily covered by still water. Marshes are usually shallow and covered by vegetation.
The dominant vegetation depends on the soil salinity and on the duration and regularity of flooding. Salt and brackish marshes are mainly found along the coastline (often close to lagoons), but also inland in the warmest countries (north Africa, Middle East). Various species of rushes (Scirpus, Juncus ) characterize brackish marshes, whereas saltmarshes are often covered by highly salt-tolerant species such as Salicornia spp. ,Sarcocornia spp., Suaeda spp. etc.
